Otherwise known as 'that panda game'.
Antoine Bauza created two of the most popular family games in my house - this and Tokkaido. Both are awesome with kids because they aren't really super competitive, and you will need to pay attention in other players turns.
The panda and the gardener move around an ever expanding garden of hexes. Bamboo grows. The panda eats the bamboo. Players score. Random hidden scoring cards mean you never know when your victory conditions will trigger,
Later expansions added a whole family of pandas. It's literally pandamoni... well, you get the idea.
Why is it great? Its light hearted and fun when it starts, but when those victory points start stacking up... it can get quite competitive.
